There are several large windows that line the far corner of the restaurant, so there is plenty of natural lighting on that side. Towards the inside, near the bar, there’s less lighting, but their overhead lighting still provides adequate lighting. I personally love the sheer white curtains near the windows. The inside has relatively limited seating, so make reservations in advance, if possible!

A5 Wagyu Tartare and friends:

I can see why this restaurant is crowned as Houston’s best sushi restaurant. The quality of every single ingredient is so incredibly high– everything is so fresh and melts in your mouth. Ingredients are flown in fresh from the Tsukiji fish market in Tokyo!

One of my favorite dishes here was the A5 Wagyu Tartare. The quail egg yolk mixes so well with the raw meat, and the flavors are just a heavenly explosion in the mouth. I highly recommend trying this if you’re not afraid of raw meat. If you’re more risk-adverse, try the A5 Wagyu Tartare Aburi, which is the same dish but slightly seared. The third option in the trio, the A5 Wagyu Beef Aburi, is the most cooked out of the three.

MF Sushi is famous for their nigiri, so definitely try some while you’re here! Their uni is insanely fresh– not even a hint of the fishiness that you might find at lower-priced restaurants. Just look at their salmon and tuna– whether it’s the sashimi or the nigiri. The ribbing of fat is so beautiful and the meat is firm– yet melts in your mouth. If you order the Tuna Nigiri Sampler, you get to try the different types of tuna they have (the difference between them is the amount of fat found in the fish). The Truffle Aioli Salmon Appetizer is a great way to get the night started.

And while I would highly recommend eating sampling the different nigiri, that definitely takes a toll on the wallet (each piece of nigiri generally ranges from $3- $6), so try some of their rolls (they range from $12- $25)! The A5 Wagyu roll is wonderful (but to be honest, they’re all great).

Definitely be prepared to spend a pretty penny if you visit, but the quality of the ingredients and the ambiance are definitely worth your money.

TLDR; I highly recommend trying the A5 Wagyu Tartare, the Truffle Aioli Salmon Appetizer, the Otoro Nigiri, and the Salmon Nigiri.

Let me know if you go, and what you think!
